"The Bridesmaid's Basket"

In this workshop, you will construct a beautifully proportioned, six-inch round basket - the same delicate basket carried by the wedding party in my book Lightship Baskets of Nantucket. Perfect for beginning basketmakers, this class teaches you the proper method of carving and placing of staves, traditional weaving techniques and application of the rim. At the end of class you will not only have a lovely and valuable basket but the ability to go on and create more of these if you so desire.

As in all my classes, it is important to me to present and perpetuate the tradition and fine craftsmanship of the Nantucket Lightship Basket. During our time together we will informally discuss the history of these baskets, the elements that combine to create a "true" Nantucket Lightship Basket, and aspects to be aware of when purchasing either an antique or contemporary piece.
